Unit 10 Post

Hello everyone,
Well, we did it. We have just entered the last week of this course. I would first like to take this time to say “hats off to our Professor, she was great”. I would also like to say it was great working with all of you. I wish everyone the best of luck in your future travel with Kaplan.
For all you new students out there, just remember you can do anything you put your minds to do. Make it a goal you have to accomplish and it will happen. When fist coming into Comp II, as well as Comp I, I was so very nervous. I always have been the type to get really nervous and sick to my stomach when it came down to having to write a paper. Knowing you have to make sure to watch out for plagiarism, to use the right in-text citation, the right way to do your references and where to use a comma or not. It all seems so overwhelming, but trust me after taking these courses (Comp. I & Comp. II) you will feel a lot better about having to sit down and write a paper or even a project. This course is not as bad as you may think; trust me I was the one thinking I was never going to make it through these courses. But once I entered this course and found out that we would be building our paper from week to week that alone lifted a lot from my chest. Then the Professor threw a very good curve ball by having us write a first draft and posting it so everyone could look at. I know you are thinking right now, “Man that is not good, what if I really mess up, or even I don’t want everyone to think I’m not good at this.” I even thought when she first said this that everyone was going to look at mine and say, “This girl cannot write a paper for nothing.” But come to find out it was great to have someone give you advice and help point out your errors. I believe in the long run it saved me from a lot of errors with grammar and punctuation. I still got some punctuation errors as well as citation errors, but not near what I would have had if it was not for my peers, so I thank everyone for that. I will have to work a little more on those things, but at least I can sit down and start a paper without feeling like my chest is caving in. LOL
Just remember this: Your fears are challenges, challenges are what give us strength, and strength is what helps you later on in life to be able to overcome anything. We cannot learn everything in a day, so we use each day to learn something new. That is what makes life fun; you never know what you are going to wake up to. And believe me living in a house with 5 kids, two dogs, two cats, a bunny, fish take, and a husband you act like the kids. I never know what I’m waking up to. One thing I do know when I go to bed, I will be waking up to something I did not know the day before. So no matter what the next day have to bring me whether it be good or bad, I know I will have learned something new or how to deal with that days challenge. So with that in mind the day was never a loss, it is always a gain.

Unit 9 Post

Hello everyone:

Well here we are, in our final stretch of our course as well as our final project. I have written my paper on teenage pregnancy, for anyone that has not known that. When I started writing this paper, I was so nervous and did not think I was going to be able to pull it off. However, with all the help from the Professor and you classmates I really think I can say I feel pretty good about my paper. Well at least with the part of having all the information that needed to be included. While researching this paper I have learned so much about the problem with teenage pregnancy and how it has grown over the years. I have also learned how to do better research as well as different techniques in proof reading a paper. I know one things I will be taking from this class with me, is how to overcome being so nervous on writing a paper. With all the different things I have learned, I feel that I can comfortably research, write and proof read a paper now. Well good luck everyone with your final draft.

Unit 8 Post

Hello everyone, so here we are only two weeks to go after this. I’m guessing by now we all should be putting the finishing touches on our papers, when I first entered this class I could not stop worrying about if I would be able to write a scientific paper or not because I never really was good at writing. Now here I am in part two of College Comp writing another paper. This was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, although I do have to say the hardest part was coming up with a thesis statement. This was also the hardest part the first time around, which is not saying much due to the fact it is also one of the most important parts of the paper. Although the way that Dr. M. made things in a step-by-step process made it a lot easier for me. I also have trouble in any paper I have to write knowing what information to include and not to include. When researching for information it is hard to be able to keep it all in order and how I want to put it all together. I guess this is why I liked the unit where we had to research the different learning styles and how each one worked.
I feel that the comments that I have received in my blog as well as my discussion post have been very helpful, and spirit lifting. It seemed just when I was getting worried about how my paper was coming or how worried I was even writing one someone would be there to write a comment to left my spirits ups and help see me through it. I hope to continue my blog with my classmates as well as other classmates in my up-coming classes.

Unit 7 Post

Hello everyone,
I cannot believe we only have three more weeks left after this week. Things have really moved fast on writing this paper, which I was really nervous about to begin with. I do have to say I really like how the Professor setup this class. It worked out great for me, how each week was building my paper, now we had to do a draft that was basically my whole paper with just a little more to write. To top things off she now has us reading each other’s paper, I mean think about it she really is setting us all up to be able to get an “A” how great is that. All we have to do is follow her step-by-step plan. I can remember in the first part of this course I was worried about if the writing center was going to get back to me in time, now I have the writing center and all my classmates as well helping me with my paper. This is really a good process for writing a great paper, for me at least anyway. So hats off to the Professor, she was great in the helping process. Not only can I get my paper written with less nerves, I now have all kinds of different eyes looking at my paper and giving me either suggestions or helping me with spelling and grammar errors. Now I have the opportunity of learning from others as well as my own mistakes, which brings me to something that I found very interesting as well as shocking, while doing research on my paper. I discovered that while teenage pregnancy is raising so is the percentage of baby shaken syndrome, this is due to all the pressure and depression in the teen age mother. I bet this puts a lot of pressure on the parents or grandparents of the teen mom. I was also shock to find out the there are 1.1 million teen age girls getting pregnant every year, what are these kids thinking today?

By the way, thank you so much Professor for making this class less stressful and more pro-active.
